S.P.A.R.
Spontaneous Practical Adjusted Reflex.
IN addition to teaching American styles of Wushu, TKD, Karate, etc., SACMMA also teaches the S.P.A.R Martial Art.
In the late 1990's, the MIxed-Martial Arts began to flourish in the United States. Traditional street fights were doomed to end up on the ground. Traditional Martial Arts split into either a pure form of competition style matches or were bastardized within the less than ideal "McDojos". These frauds would called themselves 18 Dan Black belts, force students to call them Grand Master, teach them useless techniques and quite often, abuse students, physically, mentally and emotionally. There was no regulation to uphold the strict standards of the established Arts and as a result, only the purest forms of TKD, Karate, Wushu, Boxing and other popular Arts were effective in real life confrontations.
The Mixed Martial Arts including JuJitsu, Wrestling, offered much success in those real life scenarios, but as Competition arts, they were limited to non lethal techniques. Muscle-memory plays a huge part in any system, and it just wouldnt do, to teach an elbow strike to the temple and expect a practitioner to refrain from using that in a competition bout.
Enter S.P.A.R.! The techniques from SPAR are traced back through the histories of Wushu, Taekwondo, Boxing, Karate, Krav Maga and other Fighting styles. Also prevalent are the striking styles of Bokator, Systema and Modern American Street Fighting. Matching these Standing or upright fighting positions with the joint locks, nerve strikes and submission techniques make SPAR a well rounded, highly effective and quite lethal fighting system.
Spar is a series of predetermined strikes designed around a members specific body style, size, weight, condition, etc. Once the reflexes to specific strikes or offensive moves have been established, the practitioners' reflex is slightly Adjusted. The adjustments are designed to turn a defensive gesture into a series of lightning quick, Spontaneous strikes, locks, joint manipulations and ultimately, submission. Submission is the designed end to all confrontations.
There is a possibility that things can go too far, so training involves extreme self control. A SPAR black belt wont try to beat down someone who looks at his wife or says something stupid about her kids, but... He/She will be more than able to stop, restrain, subdue or even kill someone if the need arises. That is the Practical aspect of SPAR.
Because each series of strikes is an adjusted personal Reflex, the strikes are much quicker than the unatural strikes that take years or even decades to learn and instinctively use. This will allow a lightning quick, bone-breaking and lethal response.
Only Instructors endorsed by the American Mixed-Martial Arts Association are permitted to teach this system.
Much of the extra knowledge found in Traditiona Martial Arts schools, such as foreign culture, language, history, etc, are discarded. Without needing to learn all of the non combat related items, a SPAR student can focus more on the physical parts of the program.
A Major difference between SPAR and any other system is:
-
in traditional confrontations, usually 2 opponents face off, fighting stance assumed, and prepare to strike. When the striking doesnt work, one will shoot for the take down, and hope for a good position. then the ground and pound begins til someone stops the altercation/competition.
-
In SPAR, 1 aggressor attempts to hurt an innocent by a sucker punch, an announced attack, attempted theft, damage of property or assault on loved one(s). The other simply applies SPAR training and pounces. There is no circling of combatants. There is no trash talk from the SPAR student. There is just the acknowledgement of a threat, then a spontaneous series of predetermined strikes, locks and a submission. SPAR is extremely unorthodox. It is not designed for sport, competition or just messing around. SPAR is literally, a full on, hard core, empty fisted owning of anyone who wants to cause harm.
Even though SPAR is a Self Defense system, it retains many aspects of traditional Martial Arts, so it is truly a Hybrid Mixed-Martial Arts. This American system is designed to be self paced, allowing students to practice more than the 2 or 3 times weekly programs found in other traditional schools. SPAR uses a belt ranking system to instill confidence and a sense of accomplishment. The usual training time from white belt to black belt is 18-36 months, although some have done it in as little as 13 months.
This System is specifically designed to work with your individual size, weight, and reflexes. It will encompass all of the others above but is the most lethal. Due to its nature, Spar cannot be taught for the low price of our other packages. SPAR is an Advanced Combat Mixed-Martial Art that incorporates traditional styles, as well as some lessor known styles. Jeet Kun Do, Bakator, and others will be recognized within this system, SPAR is more of a combat self defense system, than a Martial Arts style.
The price for taking the SPAR System Course is $65.00 per month. It includes membership, Live training videos, and personal trainer via live video chat. In addition to the perks in the other programs, you will recieve 2-S.P.A.R Patches, and Spar Nunchaku upon reaching Black belt. Franchise position is available to all SPAR Black belts.
Testing for each rank is scheduled every two weeks and is viewed live, either via video chat or in person. Fee for testing for each rank is $50.00. This course is time-intensive on our staff as we give real-time feedback, answer questions, and offer positive feedback on perfecting your form. This added service is scheduled by appointment and designed to give you the most personal attention possible. There is a maximum limit of 20 SPAR students at any time in SACMMA.
Please note that after your Green belt test, you will need to indicate specifically the SPAR program on the blue belt page, and from that point on, you will need a partner for passing the rank tests.
Presently, we are in communication with American universities to accredit SPAR Black Belts with college credit.
